Learn vocabulary on your lock screen

A word from your vocabulary several times a day, without opening the app: how it works, how many and when, and why the push travels empty.

The hard part of vocabulary is not learning it, it is coming back to it. A word you looked up yesterday is gone if you never see it again, and opening an app to review is exactly what you do not do in the five spare minutes in a queue.

Lock-screen notifications turn that around: the word comes to you, in the one place you already glance at dozens of times a day. You do not have to remember to review โ€” only to look.

How it works

One word at a time
You get a word from your vocabulary on the lock screen. Each new notice replaces the last, so they never pile up.
You choose how many and when
By default 4 a day, between 08:00 and 22:00, but you set the frequency and the time window to fit your routine.
Guess or translate
In โ€œguess firstโ€ you see the word and its definition, and the translation appears on tap. In โ€œshow translationโ€ you see it with its translation and an example.
From your list or at random
You can receive only the words you mark, or all your saved words in random order.

The push travels empty

The word never travels over the internet. The push service only wakes your phone with a signed, content-free notice; it is your own device that picks the word and draws it, from a list that lives only on it.

That is why your words and the mode you choose never leave the device, and there are no ads or trackers involved. What is on your list is between you and your phone, nobody else.

Plans and requirements

It is a feature of the paid plans: Basic allows up to 4 notices a day and Professional up to 16. You set it up from โ€œMy wordsโ€ and turn it off whenever you like, on one device or all of them.

On iPhone and iPad it works with Lehrito added to the Home Screen (in Safari: Share โ†’ Add to Home Screen) and needs iOS 16.4 or later. On desktop and Android it works in the browser.

FAQ

How many words do I get a day?
By default 4, and you adjust it. Basic allows up to 4 a day and Professional up to 16, always spread across the time window you choose, never more than one per hour.
Do I see the word without opening the app?
Yes, that is the point: it appears on your lock screen without opening anything. Tapping it opens the full entry, and if you were guessing you can mark whether you knew it so it counts in your reviews.
Is it private?
Yes. The notice that travels over the network is empty and signed; your own device picks and shows the word. Your word list never leaves the phone.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, with Lehrito added to the Home Screen and iOS 16.4 or later. On iPhone the notice shows no buttons: you tap the body to reveal the translation.
